Why items are crashing because of Treasure Trail update
Aug 8th
Maybe I’m just stating the obvious here but the reason why a lot of items have been crashing lately is because of the Treasure Trail update.
Many of the items that are crashing are old treasure trail items, that’s because included in this update:
We’ve also added a mechanism to ensure that each and every treasure trail completed will reward you with at least one treasure trail-specific item, by introducing new items common to all levels of trails.
So basically the chances of getting treasure-trail specific items has greatly increased and so will the supply and, as I’m sure you all know, with increased supply comes lower prices (and, in this case, possibly lower demand, too, because they won’t be as rare.)
Also items like seeds, herbs, and the like are crashing because (as often happens when there’s a big update) the high level players are all doing clues instead of growing trees and doing herblore (so demand has gone down but there’s still the same supply) because currently it’s easy to make over 10 million a day doing clues (so my friends tell me anyway). These items will probably go back up to their normal price very soon, of course, and so are most likely a good buy at the moment.
Edit: Herbs and herb seeds are also crashing because of a bug (called ‘MTK glitch’) that gave people huge amounts of herbs (like over 50mil worth in the some cases) for a day when they collected their coffers for Kingdom Management at Miscellania.
Why Third Age Druidic Equipment IS good
Aug 4th
Before today there were three sets of Third Age Equipment: Melee, Magic and Ranged. These armor sets are all very rare rewards from level 3 clue scrolls which look good and have good stats for non-degradable armor. All the sets are very expensive because of their looks and rarity, though their stats are comparable to the less-rare and less expensive armor dropped by the bosses in the God Wars Dungeon.
Today (or perhaps yesterday or a year ago, depending on when you read this. Same is true for above lol.), along with a bunch of other new treasure trail rewards, a fourth set came out called ‘Third Age Druidic Equipment’ which gives a high prayer bonus. Surprisingly, this Third Age armor is a reward from level 4 clue scrolls rather than level 3 like all of the other sets and was released with a higher market price (245mil!) than all the other 3rd age gear, though at first glance it doesn’t seem much better than the others. For this reason and the fact that the new set’s stats are comparable to other much cheaper sets like proselyte armor, some people are complaining that the druidic set is not good enough. I disagree.
I see a real potential for Third age Druidic Equipment that other people seem to have been missing and I think really does put it above all the other sets. The full set (including cloak and staff) gives a +31 prayer bonus, a +28 magic attack bonus and a +30 magic defence bonus. If you replace the cloak with a Soul Wars cape (reward from Nomad’s Requiem: +12 to prayer and and +8 to all defence stats) and also weild a full Zamorak/unholy book (+5 to prayer and +8 to all attack stats), a fury (+5 to prayer, + 10 to magic attack and +15 to magic defence), barrow gloves (+6 to magic attack and defence) and infinity boots (+5 to magic attack and defence) you end up with a +47 prayer bonus, a +57 magic attack bonus and a +61 magic defence bonus.
Those are some seriously good stats for when you need to use magic and prayer at the same time. With full proselyte and a crozier (plus all the other items listed above that give best prayer and magic bonuses), you can get a +44 prayer bonus, but only a -28 magic attack bonus and a +40 magic defence bonus. So, as you can see, Third Age Druidic Equipment far exceeds it’s competitors when it comes to good magic and prayer armor.
One place I can think of where 3rd age Druidic Equipment would be especially useful is at Ice Strikeworms (though you’d have to wear a fire cape instead of Druidic or Soul Wars cape). Here you could auto-cast fire surge and use the soul split prayer (which heals you 1/5th damage) to keep you from dying. The same strategy would be good for most of the Runescape bosses and I’m sure for lots of runescape monsters – if you can think of any in particular please tell me.
Another great use for this armor would be to turn on rapid eye prayer which adds 15% attack to magic or augury which adds 20% to magic and 25% to defense but makes you lose prayer points a lot faster. I wouldn’t be surprised if that adds up to a better exp per hour (which is all that the high level people who are rich enough to afford it are going to care about) than fighting with Ahrims and it would be especially worth it when you are already using another prayer (like protect from magic) so you need to bring prayer potions along anyway.
Oh, I forgot to mention that the Third Age Druidic Equipment looks awesome, too! Hopefully that, added to all the other stuff you’ve read, convinces you that Third Age Druidic robes aren’t nearly as bad as they seem and, if you’re extremely rich, maybe even to buy a set!
Lvl 10 Dungeon Ranarr Spawn and Jagex’s Great Conspiracy
Jul 20th
Everybody thinks Ranarrs are going to continue crashing because of the new cave which spawns them that you only need 10 Dungeoneering to enter. I beg to differ.
In this cave, Ranarrs spawn once every 100 seconds. This means 36 can be gathered on each world per hour hour. If people can get 8k each for them then (36*8k) that’s 288k per hour. They can also pick up Irit herbs which would add about 100k and make it 388k per hour. But that’s only if there is no competition. If there is, that profit could easily be halved or worse.
Only the noobiest noob would sit around for an hour picking up spawns for (a questionable) 388k gp and no exp. Especially when there are so many other more profitable, less tedious and exp-gaining ways to make money. If the prices did drop alot they wouldn’t stay down for long because then it would be even less worth it to pick up spawns i.e. it might only be 250k per hour then.
The reason Ranarr herbs are dropping now is artificial. Everybody is dumping because people don’t understand that it’s so not worth it to gather ranarrs and irits and that nobody is going to bother. As soon as people realize the truth they’re gonna stop dumping and start buying at max (because the price will have dropped and you’ll be able to get for really cheap.) and the price will go back to normal.
EDIT: I just found out that there are Chaos Druids in the lvl 10 cave,
too. This may provide people a greater incentive to camp there because they can kill druids for their herb drops and pick up the ranarrs at the same time. This means ranarrs might be going down afterall – though not for sure.
If, as they always do when there’s a PvP update or more people playing for whatever reason, the prices of Ranarrs go up a bunch, it will make gathering this way somewhat profitable so people will start gathering again and the prices of Ranarrs will go back to their average price. So what this cave really does is keeps the price Ranarr Herbs and prayer pots from getting too high.
It’s not only the price of ranarrs and prayer pots that Jagex wants to keep low, though, they also want to decrease the price of leveling smithing and prayer. This is, of course, what I call “Jagex’s Great conspiracy”.
Prayer: Frost Dragons drop bones that give 2.5x as much exp as dragon bones but aren’t that much harder to kill than normal dragons. Everybody’s going to be killing them to get 20k for the bones and so there will be a lot of supply and price will go down along with prices of other bones and the price of leveling prayer.
Smithing: There are 3 runite ores in one of the caves. This will make it much easier to obtain ores and thus increase their supply, effectively lowering the price it costs to smith rune stuff. Also, in one of the Dungeoneering caves there are steel + iron dragons and and anvil all together. This means people can kill the metal dragons and then make iron/steel platebodies to get free smithing exp. Plus (one of the most shocking things) one of the resource dungeons holds 6 mithril 3 silver and 13 coal rocks that are right next to a bank and, what’s more, F2P players can access them! This will definitely make the prices of coal and mithril fall, along with the prices of all bars.
More about the whole conspiracy thing: I think it is a conspiracy because this isn’t the first time they’ve done stuff to cheapen or “noob down” skills. Take double exp weekend when people could get 99 summoning for half the money and time or effigies which make lvling slayer a lot faster because they’re dropped all the time and give a ton of exp. I’m sure there are more out there that I’m not aware of. I think they’re doing this to cater to the desires of all the 12 year olds (who make up the majority of their members) out there who all want an easier game.
