How to make money using the Farming Skill

Requirements:
Level 9 Farming, with higher Farming level being a benefit!

Recommended:
Completion of My Arm’s Big Adventure Quest – for access to additional herb spot

Farming is a skill that requires very little attention, but can yield up very easy profit

It’s all from herbs – taking the time to plant the seeds in all the patches and then harvesting and selling!

The minimum I’ve ever gotten from an herb patch (not counting herbs that have died) is 4, the maximum I’ve gotten is 12. Average seems to be around 6-8.

6-8 herbs may not seem like much, but remember you can get access to -five- herb patches, allowing for ~35 herbs to be harvested.

Examine the GE price of seeds, and the herbs you’ll be growing.
Profit per seed = (Number Herbs Grown)*(Herb Price) – (Seed Price)

Here’s an example of the profit for seeds (I used the average of 6 herbs grown):
Ranarr: 23k Seed, 6.4k herb ——-> ~15k profit per patch
Snapdragon: 35.6k Seed, 7.9k herb —–> ~11k profit per patch
Toadflax: 462 Seed, 2.2k herb —-> ~13k profit per patch

Since there are five patches… that’s 75k just for having the Farming level and spending a few minutes to plant the seeds! And planting the seeds is very quick and easy if you plan out what you need. Here is an example of my Herb Trip:

Inventory:
Ectophial, 5 Law Runes, 2 Fire Runes, 2 Water Runes, Seed Dipper, Spade

Equip:
Explorer Ring (3), Magic Secateurs/Air Staff when teleporting, Nature Amulet, Glory Amulet (if Explorer Ring unavailable)

Method:
-Empty the Ectophial and head west, past the farm to that herb patch.
-Use the Cabbage Ring teleport and head north to that farming patch (or Glory to Draynor)
-Teleport to Ardougne, head to north Ardougne bank and bank herbs.
-Head north out of the bank, and east, to that farming patch.
-[IF My Arm's quest completed] Teleport to Trollheim, make your way into the Troll Stronghold, then south into the room, and north up the ladder.
-Teleport to Camelot and head to Catherby’s plot.

Miscellaneous Tips:
-Herbs grow in ~75 minutes, so you can do one of these runs every hour and 1/4 or so!
-Use super compost, it increases the yield and lessens the chance of herbs dying.
-Wielding the Magic Secateurs or Nature Amulet while harvesting increases yield 10%. (That’s like an extra herb!)
-Stock up on super compost; purchase Pineapple from Arhein everyday (the guy at Catherby docks) and put 15 pineapple in the compost bin at Catherby whenever you can!
